Just a quick question since I'm at work and can't check this now.

Roughly how much tread (mm) is still available on a standard 16mm alpha pot when mounted in a hammond (b or bb)  enclosure?

Thanks,

Arnoud

Total shaft thread is 6.5mm.

Washer thickness is 0.4mm.

Nut thickness is 1.7mm.

Total available shaft when mounted is ~4.4mm.

Ok thanks!

That would be good I have an idea which requires ~2mm extra height.. Now i know I will still be able to put on the washer and nut.

btw.. I think you forgot the thickness of the enclosure.. about 2mm..

You didn't ask for that  ;)

These could go anywhere, limited to a 4.4mm panel.

Does anyone know where can you get replacement nuts for the Alpha 16mm pots? I need some...

The mechanical dimension/ designator for this type of nut/ washer is "M7."

Smallbear has them, though it's not clear if they're direct replacements (no datasheet):

http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=482

Mouser has a hardware page in their "virtual catalog:"

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogUSD/640/2277.pdf

Where i would use (Mouser Part Number) 48AN007 for a replacement nut.

Note the thickness is 2mm thick, 0.3mm thicker than the stock Alpha (although i have not seen a spec for the alpha nut, which i measured. could very well go up to 2mm within some tolerance).

Also note that replacement washers are available from each vendor.

Thanks for the info! I thought I was up the creek on getting some replacement nuts.
