as above, it works for like 5 mins then cuts out

1. if you let it rest then it comes back on but keeps going off.
2. the led stays lit (wired to come on as soon as power is on)
3. the dc adapter is multi voltage, non regulated?
4. theres 12.x volts coming out when its set to 9, that be why???
cheers in advance (post pics below)

if your power supply is like the one i have here, try putting it on the 7.5v or 6v and check if that way you get the 9v.

If it keeps cutting the sound after some time, try checking if all the caps on your circuits are okay, maybe one's bad and is causing te problem... and try connecting a multimeter in the voltage meter for all the time to check if the voltage dosen't falls. it could be also the power suppy that have something wrong...

If you are using an unregulated wall wart, then the voltage should be 3V or so higher than stated when no load is on the supply. You should only expect a nice 9V without load off a regulated supply. That's normal, I don't think there is anything wrong with your PSU. If the voltage dipped, then the LED would dim as well, so you are getting a nice healthy output as indicated by the LED.

I bet you have a bad solder joint somewhere. Resolder anything that looks iffy and try it again. I'm assuming it's not 5 min exactly, but just sort of randomly cuts in and out over lengths of time?

yeh, iv tried putting it on 4 volts (multimeter tested giving out 9v output) over half an hour on 3 occasions and stil goin strong). only thing left thats bugging me it when my LED flashes, it makes like a low clicking sound, you cant here it if your playing but between riffs etc its really obvious, its definatley when my led flickers, is it because i took the live feed streight from where the power enters my box? so its altering power before it reaches the circuit?
and i didnt think the model mattered as i thought it would just be a regular power supply problem? pretty sure the circuits fine.
anyway its a blackcat od-1 and iv added 2x flickering leds (made circuit from breadboard) if you need to see schem its on my other posts (dont have many)

Have you read "Debugging thread: What to do when it doesn't work" ? There's some highly important information in there that we'll need to help you.

There's not much that can be done with "my pedal cuts out after five minutes" other than guessing that you may have power supply problems.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

open it up and feel whether the voltage regulator is getting hot while its on
if it is you are drawing too much current for some reason

most VR's automatically shut down when they get too hot

That fits the Molten Voltage Motif', interesting suggestion since the failure timing sounds to be consistant and accurate.
Makes for a more interesting and fruitful debug when the pertinent info's are included.
