Is there any difference between different 3pdt switches?

On ebay I find some 3pdt that are the standard blue, some that are white, black, etc.  Are these different manufacturers and is there any difference in quality?  For that matter, is there difference in quality between various blue switches?

I seem to remember several years ago the blue switches had textured plastic, but now all the ones I've found recently have smooth plastic and have an overall cheaper feeling (though this is just an impression I get; I've never had much problem with broken switches).

Where do people think is the best place to get switches?

I hear he tests every switch for functionality.  I don't know that anyone on ebay makes that claim.

My own stance is that the "switch failures" builders encounter can NOT be avoided by pre-sale testing.  I am confident the manufacturer does quality control before shipping them off to retailers, so simply repeating the continuity test adds nothing.

The design and construction of such switches is predicated on a get-in-get-out-quick approach to commercial soldering.  The grease used to hold parts in place and damp contact bouncing inside the switch is not made to withstand excessive heat applilcation, and the plastic used to hold the contacts in place is likewise not meant to withstand prolonged exposure to excessive heat.

A great many switch failures among hobbyists/boutiquers come about by lousy soldering technique that exceeds the heat exposure such switches were designed for.  Consequently, no amount of pre-testng in the world will predict the outcome of what your soldering technique does.

Bottom line: While they may feel different because of their mechanisms, there is no difference between brands/colours in their electrical functioning.....before you get your hands on them.

I've bought both the blue and white switches on ebay.  I like the white switches better because they have a very soft click when switching, but they do feel a little cheaper.  The blue switches have a harder click when switching but feel sturdier.  I have not had any failures with the white switches and will buy them again.
