Ground tip disconnect?

Hi guys,

I just bought a Colorsound Wah pedal, which is pretty cool, but it had a small downside : it doesn't have any ext power supply plug. Therefore, I drilled it and put a Boss-type plug (with - in the middle), that is in metal, fixed to the body of the pedal.
Alas, there seemed to be some isolation issue : the pedal didn't make any sounds (well, only some weirds ones). So I try to put some insulating tape around the hole I drilled, and it worked, except it didn't work perfectly : as soon as the pedal moved a bit, it went again...
So, I tried something more radical : I disconnected the wire that stood between the female in-jack and the body of the pedal.
Now it works perfectly!  :icon_biggrin:
But I still was wondering if it was a good idea... is there any risk either for the pedal or for the guitarist to do that?

Thank  you guys for your answers!

Is the DC jack you put in made of metal (and thus conductive)?  Because the standard Boss wiring scheme used in many pedals uses the centre for the negative connection (and hence the body of the jack is +9V), if you use a conductive DC jack you will have a dead short between the jack (+9v) and the enclosure housing (ground).  Use a plastic/non-conductive DC jack and you'll be fine.

Yes, it's made of metal, so I ordered an isolated DC jack.
But in the meantime, is it safe to play it with the wire linking the female entry jack to the ground disconnected? Not sure I'm clear enough : there's a wire from the input jack (audio, not DC) with a metallic washer fixed to the pedal's body. I unscrewed the washer and put some tape around it so it's not connected to the ground anymore.
Is there a risk to harm the pedal... or myself?

Thank you guys!

You should be able to isolate your signal grounds from the case and you won't be at risk of a short but you won't have a good shield either and things may get noisy.
