Guys Im trying to build the easy fuzz face clone and i purchased the parts from small bear elec. The general guitar gadgets parts list says that C1 should be a film capacitor however I see on the schematic for the easy face that C1 has a + marking.

I bought the film capacitor following the parts list... how do I know which side is positive and negative?. They don't seem to be marked.

Film caps are non polarized, so it doesn't matter which way you install it.

but the schematic has a polarization sign over C1 meaning I should use an electrolytic instead of the film capacitor.

Can a film capacitor be substituted for an electrolytic?

Yes indeed. Films are forever, electrolytic types dry out and die eventually.
Film cap are more neutral sounding in audio applications, but I seriously doubt
you'd notice the difference in a stompbox.
Film caps? Go with God my son!

That's a typo.

I think they marked C7 and got carried away.

C7 is 3.3u, which is a BIG costly film, or a cheap electro. We be cheap, we use electros, so C7 needs a polarity mark.

Maybe you can find a 0.01u electrolytic, but a 0.01u ceramic or film is cheap and happy. And goes either way.

If you look and the layout PDF, C1 is drawn as a 3.3uf electro and C7 isn't identified.  There are a few minor typos.  I used a film in that position when I built mine.  Worked great, sounded better.
