Can you check my pseudo vanishing point sequencer layout?!

Ok, So using the two schems below:

and

I came up with this layout below. The combination of the two works on breadboard and I'm not very good at making layouts so can someone please verify that this is correct for me or give any tips on how to make it better before I dive in and solder it all together? Thanks!

I haven't had a proper look but one obvious thing is you're shorting the +Vcc and ground pins on the ICs, I can't see where your power connections are either.

daverdave

plus you could do with filling in the black areas with copper islands so as to save on etchant, it's not that important though.

Ok, I think I got it figured out (thanks daverdave).

How does this look? It's not the best layout ever, but it should work I think:

ok, i get only the first light on and that's all that happens...

C'mon guys, I could really use a little bit of help here. I'm pulling my hair out over how simple this is and I just cant get it on a freaking circuit board.

I'm sure there should be another resistor between discharge and threshold on that 555 schematic. The value of it affects the mark space ratio of the outputted squarewave. it's possible that all you're getting out of the 555 is a dc signal, I might be wrong. But with you saying that it only lights the first step then I'd assume it's something to do with the clock. I'll have a better look when I can, at the moment I've got to pack to get back to uni.

Similar problems with this circuit combining 555 and 4017  :  http://media.photobucket.com/image/atari%20punk%20console%20with%20sequencer/monstruarte/atari_punk_console4th.png

same thing going on, just one light, then it seemed like a bad solder joint started clicking and sequencing and then it stopped and now i can't get it to work again...

dr.benway

so regarding what daverdave said maybe try a 100k on pins 6 and 7 of the 555

daverdave

I'd say try a few different values, 1k, 10k etc. As it really depends on the range you want. That charge cap will affect that aswell so again try different values.

ugly_guitar_guy

well theres something wrong with the layout that i made because i couldnt get it working, so I found a radioshack pad per hole board that was laid out like a breadboard and followed the breadboard layout i have of the schem above that i posted and got it working. Now its time to work on the audio section...
