Hey everyone,

Just a quick question regarding the Rat power jack. I was hoping to switch up my rat's current AC jack for a boss-style plastic barrel jack so I can daisy-chain it on my pedalboard. Is this possible, such as with EHX pedals, or would this cause polarity problems?

Thanks!

just wire it wisely, and everything will be fine...
Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible.

If anyone could tell me the correct way to wire in a 2.1mm jack I'd be very grateful.

Ha. Sorry, I should have been more specific with my question. I apologize if my questions are obvious and noobish (but then really, so am I  ;)).

I've seen a number of places offering a service to replace the standard Rat power jack with a barrel-style DC jack. My question should have been: could anyone direct me as to how to do this while accommodating the circuit? I am a little uncertain, for example, as to how to effectively ground the circuit given that the original jack is metal (presumably grounding to the chassis), but the replacement one I have seen is plastic (and thus not grounding to chassis). Or should I use a metal 2.1mm DC jack?

Thanks!

metal or not, the circuit should be grounded to the original jack. there should be one lug for grounding and 2 for 9v+. it has been a while since i was inside a real rat, but you should be able to figure it out fairly easy. the red battery wire should also be connected to the 9v+ of the jack. that will give you a clue.

have a pic? thanks

Hey John,

Thanks for the response. Here's a pic:

the bare wires coming off the jacks are the grounds and you can trace the red wires. one of the red wires will go to the board and one will go to the battery connector. on a boss style power jack, the ground is the single lug that is vertical and the 9v+ lugs are the 2 running horizontal. you will want to run the battery connector to the bottom 9v+ lug. that should do it. let us know what you find out

Yup, works like a charm! Thanks kindly for the help.

I like your signature, btw. Which reminds me...I should really go outside for a nice long walk.

With my older pedals that use the 1/8" power jack, I just use these:

Works great, and no modifications necessary to the pedal.
