Hi,
I am looking for j201 substitute(s) for heavy distortion sound. I have read that bf245c is suitable alternative. Any suggestions ?

CynicalMan

Try it out with bf245c FETs, either on a breadboard or with sockets and see what happens!
Also, http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/parts/69082-can-i-replace-bf245c-jfet-j201-jfet.html

No. BF245C has a higher Vgsoff than J201. They are similar to MPF102.
Try BF245A or 2SK117. 117s have lower Vgsoff than 201s and higher gain.
Look for Hitachi high gain & low Vgs fets.

I am looking for 2SK117, but Mouser, Small Bear or this store do not carry them. What is a good substitute for the 2SK117? I see Mouser carries the BF245A, is this a good substitute?

Thanks
Rob

bf245a and j201 have similar gain, but j201 have a lower Vgsoff.

Do you have a data sheet on the 2SK117, that I might be able to get from you?

mmhh... 2sk117 are common in my country unlike j201 and 2n5088.
it seems that  some parts are available in some regions and banned in others...
