Hi,

I am building a fuzz pedal (Fuzz workshop from diyeffect.com) at the moment and have purchased some germanium transistors from eBay.  The model number is ASZ 20 N30, they have a T07 case and I think are similar to AF114....

Anyway in short, my PCB has 3 holes and my transistors have four legs.  I have sussed out the E C and B but don't know what to do with the remaining 'shield' leg. (http://www.vintageradio.me.uk/info/semiconductors/af114.gif)

I am new to this and any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The shield can be left unconnected, or clip it.
AF transistors are not usually used in fuzz faces, low gain. They are not audio frequency amplifiers, but try them, they might work...

Well, Hfe 150 doesn't sound too bad, actual will be a bit lower perhaps, that's the ballpark for FuzzFace trannies.
Hopefully yours don't suffer from tin whiskers, there is a fascinating document containing electron microscope pictures of tin whiskers inside AF114's on www.vintage-radio.info
