Hi all,

I've only built 3 pedals so far, from BYOC and GGG kits.

Now I'm going to try to build a Rangemaster from scratch.

I understand the function of the Re bypass cap,
it's that other 47uF across the -9V and ground that has me wondering.

Is it just a filter for use with an AC to 9VDC power converter
or does it serve some other purpose?

If it's just there as a power supply filter then I assume a 'battery only' circuit wouldn't require it.

As a battery runs down, you get some hiss and pop. The cap reduces it.

It depends on the battery, and the load, and how sensitive the circuit is. It may not "always" be needed. But what does the cap cost? A dime? 50 cents at DIY prices? It is not a big or bad investment.

Thanks for the straight and clear response.

I hadn't considered circuit sensitivity.
