bass distortion with blend/mix knob - show me!!

I need to build (because to WANT to build would be immature...) a bass distortion for a fender P bass going into an ampeg svt head. Important to note I don't want overdrive or fuzz, i want distortion, and it HAS to have a blend knob to have the original bass sound mixed in. Point me in the diy direction because the search engine just aint doin it! Thanks for the help guys!

Overdrive and fuzz are two of the MANY different types of distortion.

You said what you don't want, but that hardly narrows it down.

If you don't know the technical type of distortion you DO want, point to a product or recording with the sound you like.

There's also good technical reason why most distortion effects don't use Blend, but let's narrow down the specific effect you want before we try to wrap head around that.
