that csi wah does have a volume drop compared to bypass....i think i dropped the input 330k to a 220k...to lift it a bit...at the cost of a bit of grit when hit hard!...but a bit better!.

just my 2p... ;)

another good wah is the morley op amp wah...i prefer that.....cool project btw!.. :icon_cool:

first armando, thanks for all your help! it's been hugely appreciated.

second, through a search I just found a schematic for the colorsound wah over at beavis audio (http://www.beavisaudio.com/Projects/ColorsoundWah/index.htm), and it appears that both the .01uF caps located at the input and output should be .1uF, not like what is on the "diyguitarist" layout. could this be the source of my troubles since all other values appear to be the same?

Don't know really! I have mine with 10n (.01u) at input and 100n (.1u) at output!  ;D

btw this is what I was trying to do with this hide and seek wah! that was my last winter project, though it never saw the light!!  :icon_mrgreen:  :icon_mrgreen:  :icon_mrgreen:  :icon_mrgreen:

Supposed to be called "Montecarlo Wah" with a Roulette wheel on the top!!

what i'm getting isn't so much a volume drop as a gain drop. It's like rolling the volume back half way going into the amp input. That doesn't seem right to me.

Changed the 2 caps to .1uF. No difference. I'm losing patience.....   :(

have you tried anyway to stick an LDR there (you can use your hand to make dark, but you know that  ;D ) and see/hear the result ?

shine a torch in the the ldr too .....or just try a 22-25k pot for now in place of the ldr, to get the bugger working...!..

patience is a virtue...but its not when things aint going right!...been there!...many, many times... ;)

I'm actually using a vactrol (VTL5C9) for my LED/LDR combo (it's what zvex uses)

I've actually hooked it up to the sequencer circuit and it barely makes and sound difference at all. I've put a 100k pot in place of the LDR and it just sounds like a slight treble roll off.

I've had a good nights sleep and have a clear head once again. I think I'm just going to make a PCB this week and rebuild my circuit once again. If I'm still having a problem at that point then I'm out of ideas. I've built Fuzz Factories and SHO's by the truck load, so I really don't get why this audio circuit is being so difficult. Is my method of bending the component leads to make my traces a bad idea??

no that's what most of people do with perfboards, though, from my very very low experience and skills, I indeed prefer PCBs, easy to work with and, specially, to debug  ;D

id say its time to get the breadboard out....the wah is quick n easy to breadboard...and you can mess with values too.

get it exactly how you want it, then connect it up to your.....?

you are using an npn right?.....orientation the  right way?....

its usually the simplest of circuits that do my head in too.... :)

I GOT IT WORKING!!

Ok, so after deciding to clean up some of my excessive solder on the back of the board, I realized that in my haste of connecting the input that I somehow managed to put it AFTER the first cap in the signal (I guess I was confused with the board flipped over). I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it... but once I got that fixed up properly it was all good to go! I also got some 2N5088's today in the mail so I dropped one of those in and it had a much higher range than the NTE equivalent that I had been using.

After a few minutes of trouble shooting the pairing with the sequencer section, I got it up and working completely! Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ra21p84gsA

During every sequence there's a pop in the audio, so I'm going to have to figure out how to isolate the grounds as best I can to eliminate that, but I'll worry about that after I get it in the case. It's amazing how the simplest screw ups can make a project seem so hopeless.... Learned a very important lesson on this one.  :icon_mrgreen:

Next big project, I just may have to attempt a "Ringtone"....

Am I right in thinking that you could put any circuit in place of the wah circuit?  So then the controls might say control the intensity of a fuzz for example?
Try a little tenderness.

No mother.%$%ng circuit can stay in a ''non-working-state" here at diystompboxes forum for too long!!!! isn't it m8s ?

well done Chris !! and nice video!

Hells yeah! It's just a matter of time and patience. Thanks again guys. Your help has been greatly appreciated!

Now I need to go through some searches to figure out how to separate my grounds so that I don't have that popping sound during each stage.

Search the posts of Rob (deadastronaut) about the tiny tremolooooo or the Pulsewah, IIRC (apart from the 5555 ticking) also the kind of LDR is responsible of this groung ticking/popping, isn't it Rob ?

hmmm...yeah it may be....

you may want to keep your signal grounds seperate from your power grounds...IIRC...just thinking aloud....i'm no expert on such things... :P
