hello,

i have a midi IN on my unit, and i would like to add a midi OUT or THRU,  the simple way.....

someone told me to simply connect the pin from the OUT to the pin of the IN, like pin 4 to pin 4 , pin 5 to pin 5, ground to ground ...

Do you think it can do the job?  and is it a OUT or THRU ?

Long live the music.....

scratch

that is not correct ... MIDI is a current 'loop', the signal current has to flow through each device to signal correctly ...

there as tons of MIDI thru circuits if you Google it ...

Denis,
Nothing witty yet ...

which unit is it?

guitar pedals with MIDI in are meant to only be controlled by MIDI, not to send it out

you may be able to add a THRU but there are probably easier solutions (the messages sent to midi in are the same that are sent out of midi thru, the only reason you would want to add a THRU would be if you wanted to send the same signal that you're sending to your pedal to something else simultaniously)

adding a MIDI out would not be easy, you couldn't do it "the simple way"
this would require additional electronics (a midi controller) inside the unit and even then you might damage your pedal
for most pedals it wouldn't be very useful because you only have a few knobs or one treadle
it would have nothing to do with the pedal's sound and just act as a controller for other midi devices

my suggestion would be to just get some MIDI foot controller like the behringer fcb1010 for your midi controlling needs
or if you want knobs there are midi controllers with just a bunch of knobs too

exactly what i want, just to send the same signal that i received in the midi out without adding a signal from my unit into it, so if i connect another midi device in the midi Thru, it will received the same signal that my unit received, so both device will change on the signal received....

Do you have another pedal that you are currently wanting to control, or is this just planning for the future?

If planning, usually higher-end stuff like rack units have a through. Traditionally you would put in-only devices at the end of the chain.

Otherwise, you would be best looking at a midi router, eg: http://www.midisolutions.com/prodrte.htm

You could probably make one of those fairly easily.
