Hello all! I'm new to the forum. I 'm interested in building a Fuzz Face or something similar. I do have some electronics knowledge, however, I'm trying to buy the parts for the project from Mouser.com. I know what capacitance I need but they also ask for tolerance, voltage rating, impedance, operating temp range, ect. My question is, for this type of project (Fuzzface, or Valvecaster) what tolerance ect. would I be working with.

ppatchmods

as far as tolerence IMHO you should go for the lowest possible (1%) but 5% is good enough in most cases. you need to use caps that are rated for at least 16v unless your circuit is going to be run at higher voltage (18v for instance)
When your life is over, will any of this STUFF really matter?

For the Fuzz Face and Valvecaster the tolerance would be fine up to 20%. You'd want Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - Leaded  for over 0.1u or so and ceramic or film for 0.1u and less. Like ppatchmods said, 16V is fine unless you plan to run your effects on higher voltages. Impedance, ESR, temp range, etc. don't really matter but you'll want to keep an eye on their dimensions and whether they're axial or radial. For example, here are the caps I'd suggest for a Fuzz Face:

Remember, you'd support the DIY community and probably have less of a problem with decisions if you bought them from the forum store or small bear.

Mouser is great when you can figure out exactly what part meets your needs at lowest cost per Thousand.

For starter projects, get your parts from someone who knows what you are building. Our forum host has a store with the usual stomp-pedal parts; there are several others. You won't be paying more for a part 100 times better than you need (1,600V caps, 0.1% resistors), nor will you get stuck with parts you can't use (micro-miniature SMD parts).

Thanks for the replies. I'm new to the site so I was unaware of the forum store. I will definitely use that. Thanks again!!

And if you can't find it in Aron's store, try Small Bear.  He often has parts that are cheaper than Mouser's price (he most likely buys big quantities to get a discount).  He's also a contributor to this Forum.
