Has anyone used this layout to build the Thor?

It says to use vertical trimpots. I have some small trimpots from pedal parts plus and wondered if they would work just as well.

Yup it works, tad noisy but that can probably be helped with shielded wire etc. (I added a few small caps to help suppress it, post in the thread and i'll tell you what I did if yours ends up noisy) I dunno what kind of trimpots you bought but aslong as they fit in the space, doesn't really matter, you can always expand the layout to accomodate the trim pots you have.

Is the circuit just inherently noisy or is the layout noisy?

It seems to depend on the layout. I built a Thor with Xavier's perfboard layout, and there is some hiss. No hiss with an OLC PCB (which is very close to the ROG PCB).
