Hey all. I was considering building an IC version of the Big Muff and was wonder if anyone had opinions on it. Blondegraemey's youtube vid comparing different vintage BMPs made it sound pretty good:

Anyone played/have one? What are your impressions?

I think it's a GREAT distortion. I'll build myself a clone of it in the near future.

Gila_Crisis

the IC BM has still the sonical character of a transistor BM, but is more a kind of distortion/fuzz then a proper fuzz like the transistor version.
and because of this the sound is more polite and not that much noisy like a transistor.

it's worthy to give it a try ;)

Yes, it's more of a distortion. Strings definition is clearer, responds faster to picking dynamics.
It's a bit brighter as well but you can make the pf cap larger and it will mellow out.

Hey,

Thanks guys. Sounds intriguing. I love my Green Russian BMP, but I was looking for something a little less fuzzy. Sounds like this fits the bill. Now, to hijack my own thread: Any opinions on the Ibanez SD-9 Sonic Distortion? Anyone try out the GGG clone or the one listed here in the layouts gallery?

I built one from the Gaussmarkov schemo , it's really good , the only point against is the useful range of the tone pot is small. I tried the scoop mod from 22/7ths on ROG with some success , there's loads more to try.

One the couple I have built (from t he same layout) I think the tone control works well.
The sweep of the original is too large in my opinion.
