Hi, Im new to the forum and soldering. Is it possible to fry a new on/off switch with too much heat? Its for my original Ibanez Sonic Distortion. BTW, it has a JRC4558D. Im anxious to hear it again as it crapped out about 20 years ago. The old switch was froze and im hoping this is the problem. if not is it worth finding some one to fix it?

thanks

Is it a mechanical switch?  I'd imagine it's possible to fry one with enough heat, but I'm not sure a soldering iron could do it.  I'm no expert though, and I'm sure one of the more experienced members could offer more help.

If it helps, when doing my first projects, I would keep the iron on for a good 10 seconds. They seem to work fine, don't know if they'll be reliable later on though...

Have you tested the switch with a multi-meter? They're pretty robust
