So I just built (or tried to) an atari punk console, but when I plug it in... no sound.

I got my layout from kaustic machines, but it looks more like this, but with a momentary switch between the volume pot and the output and the 4.7k/10k resistors are gone.

a few questions:
the atari punk console does not need any sort of amplifier at the end to boost the signal to be audible?

are the 4.7k/10k resistor essential to the circuit?

thanks!

I think he means: does the circuit need an amplification stage at the end, or does the 555 provide the proper output?

The answer is no, no additional amplification stages are needed, the circuit should have enough output.

doh! i didn't even have the 556 chip in!

sorry guys... thanks for replying.

The APC does need to be amplified.  I plug mine into my practice amp.  You can not plug it directly into a speaker.  You won't hear anything until it is amplified in some way.  I have built two of these.  One using two 555 timer chips and one using a dual 556 timer chip.  Without an amplifier they make no sound.

thats not true at all. the APC can drive a small speaker. The ones I made do.
