Hi guys,

What kind of effect is used in this intro?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi08y-A39S0&feature=fvst

And what kind of distortion, right after the intro? It sounds hard, but not too much distorted sound.
Like to get a similar distortion sound.

Also in this song at 0:49: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPajZ0074Ks&feature=related
It is a kinda hard song, but still it is playable at the radio station.
How do you get a distortion sound like that?

So actually, I'm looking for a distorted sound, but that still is acceptable for radio play.

Thanks...

Sounds like it's just some creative EQ work, along with some reverb and delay.

Most of what I'm hearing in the clips you cited sounds like...well...any tube-y distortion that has a LPF on it in post-production.

Thank you for your input Jacob.

INTRO
But don't you think that intro of the first clip, is something more than just some EQ'ing?
Here are some low quality live clips:

DISTORTION
Is it very common to put a low pass filter on a piece of music with distortion? Where would be the cut-off?
I assume this could be done live too?

theres an octave up effect in that first clip and multi tracked guitars creating harmony and melody as well at about 0:18. Id use some slapback delay (think rockabilly) with a fairly wet output and a single coil guitar. As far as distortion goes its just a light overdrive so anything like a blues driver, tubescreamer etc will do but dont overdo the gain.

Dont worry about brands, as long as you get that ocatve up and delay you will have something like it. i wouldnt even think the distortion is that important

Thanks knealebrown.

I just found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aRCR9Yy5I8&feature=related
Looks like you were right.

About distortion.
My bandmates are always complaining that I use too much distortion.
So then I turn down the distortion. Then they are complaining that there isn't enough power. We want that exploding feeling of bands like Closure In Moscow.
How to achieve this BAM in the face without overdoing distortion?

(I mainly use a ZVEX Box Of Rock, in my Fender Bassman)

no probs  ;D

one of my pet hates is when people use too much distortion, but only in songs that dont need it. my classic example is mollys chambers by kings of leon, people always turn that into a faux metal cover for some reason even though the recording only has a very small amount of overdrive on :-[

Glad i could help

re: distortion--it sounds like you need to crank your amp some more :) give them the power without the distortion  :icon_wink:

Top Top

Sounds like double tracked guitars to me - with a second one played an octave up, maybe some with octave up fuzz too... There are a lot of tracks of overdubs going on there.
