Hey!

I'm both new to this board and electronics. I've succesfully built a few easy projects like Drawdio, but I'm still too new :) I'm gonna try to build my first Atari Punk Console. I want to add a LED to it, but I'm not sure where I should add it.

I'm using Jimmie P. Rodgers' circuit. You can find all the PCB files and schematics here: http://jimmieprodgers.com/kits/apc/makeapc/

Hope you can help me.

Thanks!

It depends where you want the LED to go, and what you want it to do, my friend!

As an on/off indicator, you give it a separate "pole" on a switch.  So you need to look up "true bypass switching", "3PDT", and words like that on here, and you'll find the right way to do it.  I know GGG's web site has some .PDF's that show how to wire one up.  Basically, your stomp switch has an unused section and when you flip it w/your foot to "ON", it makes a contact that finishes a separate circuit for the LED.   This is composed of the LED, a suitable current-limiting resistor, and connections to + and -.
Keep looking, you'll find the schematic for it around. If not, repost and someone (or myself) will post it up.

The APC doesn't use bypass switching; it doesn't have bypass.  It's just a noise maker (albeit a pretty nifty one).  If you want to add a power LED, just hook one end up to your power switch (the circuit side- iow the same place your 9v connection to your board is attached) and the other end to ground, using a 1K or so resistor somewhere in series to keep the LED from burning up.  When the effect- er... noise thingy is one, the LED will be on too.

Well, that definitely clears my mind. Thank you Mike :)

It's done and working like a charm! :)

I've put it in an old Play Station controller. What do you think?

(Please do not mind the silicon debris all around it)

a game controller is a perfect enclosure for a tactile/knobby noise machine project like APC!
