I want to build an Ampeg Scrambler, but I am still a semi noob to circuitry. I know about resistors and capacitors an what not... But I dont understand the Transistors on the diagram, its confusing me... So before i Order parts and do this myself I want to ask...

Ok for the Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4, how do you put the transistors in like that? I know they are 3 pinned obviously but how do they go in with only 3 pins? And as for the yellow parts, do you need to put those in? I know this probably a really dumb question but I have no clue and I feel so stupid not knowing this   :icon_rolleyes:

Can someone help me out with this? I know the transistors I need to get already, I just dont know how to put them in.

Just use three of those pins ECBE. You can leave yellow parts off.

You won't know until you have the parts in your hand AND you are looking at the datasheet for that exact part by that exact manufacturer.  Compare layouts with the one at tonepad as well.  Use sockets.  Without the datasheet you can try just randomly plugging them in...

If you look at the layout carefully you will notice that on each transistor the e at each end is conected meaning you only need to use one. the layout is allowing you to use ebc or ecb pinout transistors without having to bend the leads around to make it fit. When you get your parts just search for the datasheet and check for the correct pinout and place it in the three holes that best match.

Ok I think I'm getting this now... But wat do you mean by sockets exactly? Like IC sockets?

Also "C3" needs to be flipped around for proper polarity?

Yes, C3 needs to be flipped.

The reason for the four pins is that some transistors have their pins EBC or ECB (or mirrored), with this layout you can basically use any pinout of the transistors. They will need to be darlington transistors though.
Darlingtons are actually two transistors cascaded, in a single housing, and with some crafty soldering you can make a darlington out of two normal transistors. There's also a Scrambler layout which uses normal transistors which are cascaded on the PCB to form the darlington pairs.
