Hello,

I have the following question.
I want to have a connection indicator for a remote operated unit.
If there is nothing connected to the stereo 1/4" jack a red Led is active if there is a connection a green led is active.
Can this be achieved?
Thanks, E.

  Can't tell for sure but..
 Witha 1/4'' Sleeve/Tip plug, and a stereo jack you can form a switch which is 'on when the plug goes in [see schematics with power switched at input jack.
 The sleeve of the 1/4'' plug spans across and connects the jacks ring/sleeve.
 You could use this for switching on an led, or switching on both the LED and LEd and Audio Circuits.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Sure.  Use a Stereo Switching Jack (NC variety)

Wire the non-switched portion as follows:
Tip = Signal
Shield = Ground
Ring = The Anode (neg lead) of your RED LED

On the switched portion of the jack:
Tip = ignore
Ring = Ignore
Shield = The Anode (neg lead of your GREEN LED

When no plug is inserted in the jack, the swtiched contacts will create a circuit.
Ground from the shield lug will then be connected to the shield lug on the switched side of the jack and complete the circuit on your green led.
When a plug is inserted in the jack it will lift the switched side and break the ground circuit to the green led and a new ground circuit will be formed between the Shield and Ring lugs which will complete the circuit on your red led.
