Jen Fuzz - Does anyone have the voltage readings or any tips? Do diodes matter?

I'm building the Jen Fuzz with 2N1149's

It calls for a BC238B. The BC238B crosses to a NTE123AP. The 2N1149 also crosses to  NTE123AP, which is why  I used it.
(I could not find the datasheet for the 2N1149, so if anyone has a link, please post)

I got sound right away, but just a mild distortion instead of a fuzz. I will be taking my own voltage readings shortly but am a novice so I am not sure how to analyze them yet.  I thought the correct voltage readings might help me out, tho...at least give me a guidline.

Also, in the op amp Muff Fuzz I recently built:

...the diodes were "to taste", and that seemed to be correct. I tried  about 7 or 8 different diodes with no change to the sound.

Is that the case in the Jen Fuzz also? I did not have the IN4148 so I subbed IN4949 (which, ironically I also could not find the datasheet for...so if anyone has a link, please post)

Maybe I'm bad at searching but I also could not find a thread here for the Jen Fuzz (only for the Jen Fuzz III & Jen double sound...so again, if anyone has a link...)

  Jen looks like a Buffer a Fuzzface [with 'this+that'], basically that 150k feedback resistor...and bias arrangement, similar to the famous high gain 2 transistor feedback loop amplifier.
  Any NPN's should work, schematic recommends HG/Low noise like 2n5088.
  Measure the diode clipping threshold, try different numbers of diodes and diodes with different threshold numbers [data sheet view too, the numbers you posted looked close, IIRC the sheets display threshold voltages, try a 1n400x diode [very common, striaght-sided barrels, charcoal color].
  GE, SI, LED [low, medium, high threshold: respectively, measure with DMM.
  Try -->l--->l-- measure two in a row, mix 'n match.
  Be aware that the signal voltage must approach and exceed the clipping elements threshold before the diodes do anything. why boost is commonly associated with guitar/diode clipping distortions.

Thanx much for the info...I tried about 7 or 8 different diodes and just like the op amp Muff Fuzz, changing the diodes had no effect at all.

Tho, I'm still getting only a mild distortion instead of a fuzz. If/when I get the true fuzz sound I'm supposed to, then possibly the diodes will have some effect.

I did put resistors in parallel (one at a time) with all resistors in the circuit to see if anything had any effect. None of the resistors did anything except lower the volume and/or cut the sound completely.

I'm not sure what my next step will be...
