Hey guys i was just wondering if a heat press would be a wise investment to transfer toner onto copper clad for making PCBs.

I am currently using a laminator and I have tried using an iron but I havent been getting the best results with getting the toner to transfer clean onto the copper clad.

Thanks for the help :)

What printer are you using?
What heat setting are you using on your iron?
Are you prepping the board properly?

Ive been using PNP and had little luck because I was using a Brother printer. Apparently they use a different kind of toner.

I replaced it with a Samsung ML2525 and it works like a charm.

The Samsung has a setting to print darker and I use this.

I use a setting that is a little bit less than cotton on my iron.

Ive also found that just laying the iron on the transfer for 30 seconds with no movement gives it a good start. Then it only takes 2-3 minutes of movement.

Ive been consistently getting transfers with little or no touch-ups.

I've used a sandwich press and it works a treat.  Cheap and easy solution.

What printer are you using?
I am using an hp P1006

I have been running it through a laminator and hold a lot of pressure on the clad with an iron for about 5 mins.

Are you prepping the board properly?
I am scrubbing the mess out of my copper before i transfer the toner.

I am using 8.5X11 size sheets of copper clad so I can do a lot of images at one time.
