Just wondering if you guys have pointers for a place I can contact for a run of populated boards. Just wondering if it's feasible to try and get a run made.

Thanks,

Aron

Futurlec advertises the service.

What kind of quantities are you talking about?

SMD or through hole. There's a world of shops doing small production jobs.

I'm going to start with a smaller run - this is not an audio pedal really, but something I will use with my iPad. At this point - I'm guessing something like at least a few hundred to start with. I wasn't aware futurelec did this. Thanks!

what's the price like for populated board production?  for SMD and through hole...

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Just for kicks I priced the Dr. Boogie at Futurlec. I think it was close to 9$ per board on a run of 50 boards.

Hi Aron,
I found this
http://www.4pcb.com
1-800-979-4PCB

No order too small and 1/2 off of 1st and 2nd orders up to $250.
They come highly recommended. I am going to use them for my next project.
And you'll have to admit, I'll be rich as shit
I'll just sit and grin, the money will roll right in....

> contract PCB assembly

Thank you R.G. I did this but there are so many places that I was hoping someone had a place that they trusted.

Sorry - the contract assembly places nearly all went out of business over the last decade, given the rush to get manufacturing out of the USA. There are still some around, but they are mostly all different people even if they have the same names they used to. I haven't used a contract assembly house for years, so the recommendation would be no good.

I hope that they get to where the PCB houses seem to be - they have turned around from "we won't talk to you for less than $5000.00" to "... you want fries with that?". Maybe contract assembly will too. It's pretty amazing. When I first did PCBs for DIYers, I had to cut a deal with a guy who did his own cottage industry etching, as no commercial house would touch a $500.00 order except as a favor. Now there are some really reasonable ones. I do busman's holidays - when I'm tired from a long day designing effects, I relax and kick back with designing some of my own effects.  :icon_lol: I can get proto PCBs really reasonably, although I'm well aware that they're not commercially feasible for resale. Neat hobby though.  :icon_biggrin:
