So... I have this Lipstick pink 125B enclosure and I am looking for a good project to squeeze into it. I was thinking something 80's glam metal. I don't want ot do a Dist+ or DOD OD250. Are there any other good 80's stomp boxes that would fit in this enclosure?

Rat or Turbo Rat makes me think of 80's rock.  And then there's the "Brat"... which was hot pink itself, and sounded so awful I don't think anyone has ever thought to reverse engineer it.

Thanks for the idea Mark. I had that one in mind. Are there any other ideas? Not just limited to OD/Distortion.

BOSS CE-2, that could be Constreud as 80s Glam and isn't an OD or Distortion.

Definitley a Rat as far as OD/Distortion Goes... maybe an Op-Amp Big Muff too.

My friend had a pedal called "LA Metal"- I think it was by dod(?), not sure.  I was the most horrific 80's concoction of chorus and distortion ever.

Mike,

So far that is one GOOD suggestion (Rat)  ;D

And two "horribly" bad suggestions (Brat/LA Metal)  :'(

Need to even the score!  :icon_rolleyes:

Rat with Tube screamer tone section might be neat

How about "The Replicator" it allows you to do lip-synching.
Very big in the 80's. I thing that's the one Milli Vanillli used?

It basically mixes the input of a CD player with the input from your guitar and mic.
When you turn it on, it mutes all input coming from you and only plays the input of the CD.

And pink would be the perfect color for it.

I am actually trying to move away from the Rat circuit as I have no 308s on hand. I have a ton of other op amps and chips to go through first.

The CE-2 would be interesting but I have NO 3007s. I do have some 3207s with 3102s.

Keep the ideas coming. I know when the right one gets here it will be like...  :icon_idea:

So today I am really feeling the RAT/Turbo RAT idea so I went looking. I was able to "dig up" some LM308AH metal can ICs. Can I SUCCESSFULLY place a metal can IC into a normal PDIP socket? Can anyone give me a short tutorial and possibly a few "lessons learned" from their experience with this?

Looked up the datasheet and this is what I found:

http://www.national.com/ds/LM/LM308.pdf

It is very good. If you look at pages 7 and 9, it shows a pinout however, I cannot tell if the picture(s) looking from the top or bottom of the can.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Basically, if you place the can on its legs on a table and look downwards (like you would if it were mounted on a PCB), I know that the leg closest to the little tab is Pin 8. Now.... looking at it from this angle, do the Pins number 1-8 in a CW manner or a CCW manner. If they are CCW then it will go EASY into an 8 pin DIP socket.

Wow!! No replies to the? I would have thought this was a simple one for all of the pros here. Is there anyone who has an answer for this?

According to my copy of the National Linear book, the pinouts are the same for both the 8-pin DIP and the metal can package looking from the top (pinouts go counterclockwise from the top, clockwise from the bottom for both).  This makes it easy to bend the metal can leads to fit an 8-pin socket.
