Bet that got your attention  :icon_mrgreen:

What with all these recurring compression threads...I just wondered how many of you had considered magnetic compression?

Ok, I'm teasing a little as you'd not actually ever design/build a magnetic compressor just to compress, but it's a nice by-product of making a (good) guitar sustainer.

chain is as follows...

String->pickup->preamp->compressor(any type you wish)->power amp- driver coil->string.

therefore, in essence the guitar string is essentially controlled by your underlying circuit's compressor. For example, if the input from the string is above threshold, reduce the feed signal into the power amp - this tames the string (by actually 'restraining' it with magnetism)

So, a well designed sustainer implementation will in fact have the vibe of a compressor (with inifinte sustain thrown in for the same entry price!)
