There's a thread for this but it's old and nobody seems to respond. I'm curious to how many of you have built one and what are your thoughts, mods, pics, etc...

I just finished building a new one with the buffer. I wired everything up according to the schematic. Even used the J201 Transistors. However,  I can really only turn the pot about a quarter of the way up to reach unity gain and anything above starts to get pretty noisey. There's also a good bit of gain and it's a little on the bright side.

So. How could I lower the gain and allow me to push the volume a little more? I'm going to try taking the C3 transistor out as it's supposed to lower the gain. I'm thinking about also adding a tone control. I'd also like to add a gain control but I can't figure how to do it.

Also, if I'm running the buffer in it shouldn't I NOT wire it for true bypass? I'd like to hear about some other builders thoughts and mods.

With mine I preferred the sound of 2N5457s to the J201. I also did the "dying battery" mod with LEDs and a Keeley Java Boost style full/mid-treble/treble switch with a presence control. Makes for a very versatile booster.
