Hi I'm looking for suggestions for another low gain PNP transistor instead of the 2n3096 that will work in the green ringer along with two 2n5088s. Hopefully someone can help me. Cheers.

Replying to myself but would this work?

Gonna order a few and see but would love if someone else who knows the score could help me out.

Go to this website:

http://www.datasheetarchive.com/

Type in the tranny number. Scroll down to the bottom of the page (after the search is done) and click on "Cross References"

Viola!  ;D

Thanks but I don't see cross reference there anywhere on the page. Just to check I'm doing it right, I put 2n3096 into the search box at the top then on the results page which shows the datasheets it should say "cross references" right?

Pretty much any PNP will work, the BC557 will be fine.

Scroll to the VERY BOTTOM of the page AFTER the datasheets come up. There should be a hyperlink that says "Cross References." It says that there are 115 items that cross to this part!

Maybe there should be but it's not there, I did a ctrl-f search for "cross" and there's nothing on the page. I can post a screen shot if you like? Cheers for your help anyway, should be grand with what I've got.

I concur with moose... I'm seeing the same thing.

Also, "2n3096" pulled up SCR's for me. You mean "2N3906". You can pick them up at (Cell)Shack. If you search for 2n3906, there is a cross reference section at the bottom.

...but I have to say, forget about what crosses and just experiment with everything until YOU like the sound. That's all that
matters unless you're building clones to sell.

Remember, you can get loads of transistors for 2-3 cents each

If you're ordering from Banzai, why not get a 2N3906 from them? They're a third of the price of the 557!
Bringing you yesterday's technology tomorrow.

Ah now I see the problem. I'm looking at the 2n3096 (which has no cross references) not the 2n3906 (which does have cross references). I suppose someone's gonna tell me the 2n3906 will work in place of the 2n3096 just fine too.  Actually just checking against the ggg schematic which lists 2n3906 so I've answered my own question there. Think I have a few 2n3906s here and all. Doh.

http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/gringer_sc.gif  has the 2n3906

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/Torchys_Layouts/DanArmstrong/DanArmstrongGreenRinger.gif has the 2n3096

If only I had checked the ggg schematic before now. Anyways cheers for the help everyone and sorry bout the confusion between the very similarly named trannies.
