Alright this is a random and possibly moronic question. I know in a TRS cable you have both left and right signals, but if you run mono and have an unused connection, would it be possible to run 9v through it? I'm asking this as a theoretical idea of having a circuit in a guitar or for active pickups in a guitar. I know that I'd have to have some sort of enclosure connected to a wall wart with a stereo jack connected to the power and a mono jack on the output side and all. But is this remotely possible?

Yeah, it is possible.  I've actually done this.  I made a custom cable; TRS at one end (mid connection was 9v- I put a stereo jack in the guitar) and the other was TS sort-of shrink-wrapped together with a small cable that came out to plug into a daisy chain, or in my case the other DC jack on my Boss TU2.  It worked ok, never really tested it long term though, because I got rid of that guitar.
