I have made a crunch box and I found that it became soundless or no signal sometimes. When I opened the metal cover with a small degree of angle, the sound came back;I closed the box,it became soundless. So I thought there're some poor circuit in my pedal, maybe were the wires between circuit board and control pots.

I made the circuit board again with new components and connected to the pots and 3PDT before.I added a LED connected to power jack and 3PDT.This problem also happened but the LED always lightening wheter it had signal or not.

I did some changes and adjustments to this circuit board to add PRESENCE control and re-soldering some points of weld which i think may couse these poor wire connections.Sadly, it also happened.Once i was turning the presence while the box became soundless, the sound came back gradually like i was turning the volume not the presence. The difference was that the sound also became bright while the volume raised up.At this moment, other pots like volume and gain, they also worked well(When this pedal become soundless, it's useless to turn any pot)

I think, probably, when i turned on the presence, it cut down the current and made a new connection to the volume,so the sound came back.I have no idea wheter i'm right or not and i don't know how to check or fix it. so help me.

"It worked before I boxed it up" is a common story here....VERY common.

Common sources of problem?

1) Jacks shorting out.

2) Stompswitch installed to deep into the chassis, shorting out against the lid.

3) Circuit board shorting out against the lid.

4) Lugs on toggles or pots shorting out against component leads on the board.

This has happened to me more than once and caused unnecessary headache. Since sound comes back when you're lifting the lid, this would be the first thing I would check, then other things sticking up towards the lid.
