Ok, i've sourced some nice old transistors. Unfortunately, many of them have less than 10 hfe as measured on my multimeter.
I'm thinking that I could make some sort of interesting fuzz design with these, given that they have exceptionally low gain characteristics.
But, how would I go about designing something that takes advantage of the meagre gain on tap?
Should I look at a simple booster to overdrive a single or perhaps darlington pair?
How would I get these to bias right in something like a fuzz face?

If they are hfe=10 then you could easily breadboard a FF using darlington pairs.
You can also use RG test to know the gain and leakage of the darlingtons pairs.
If total leakage is below 200-300 ua then biasing a FF is no problem.

And what about a menage a trois, that would give a gain of 1000 like a mpsa18.
