I purchased a kit to build a boost pedal and followed this layout, but i cant get it to work properly.

I checked and rechecked my wiring and it all seemed to be correct but when i engaged the pedal, the LED turned on and there was no sound, plus when i adjusted my guitars volume. the LED would get brighter and there was a crackling sound.

I contacted the seller and he sent me a photo of one that he completed and the wiring for the 3pdt switch is reversed, so i tried it that way and now the LED doesn't turn on, there is sound but instead of boosting the signal it cuts it and there is a noticeable loss of bottom end.

also the variable resistor (potentiometer) doesnt seem to do anything.

Can anyone tell me what i have done wrong?

is there anything on this layout that should be changed to make it work?

i dont have a camera, so i cant take a pic of my actual pedal but here is the photo that the seller sent to me (the PCB layout in this photo is different to the one i built)

doesn't look like the original schem for the SHO...  ???

do you have a schem?

where do you connect the ground to the board?

there is so much wrong with that layout.   ???
either you got scammed or the person selling those is a complete idiot.

Well it wasnt sold as a SHO, it came with 2 layouts and i chose to do this one.

This project didnt come with a schem, but the other one did. i will try to get a scan of it later on.

What exactly is wrong with it? how can i get it functional.

Hard to tell without a schematic.
Making a schematic is something someone can do once, then no-one else has to do it again [if posted].
Then we can more easily move on to what 'it actually is, and what might be right with it etc.
In leu of that, basically you'll have to form a schematic anyway to analyze the circuit.
I'ts possible the BP switch may have needed to be turned 1/4 turn for correct orientation/wiring.

Did you try to get any support from the people who sold you the kit? I would start there first.

I got the seller to send me the schematic.

On the schematic the Zener seem to connect to ground... but on the layout it connects to the pot...

and have you checked the orientation of the caps?

At first glance, there's something goofy about the switch wiring. Check the wiki section here on how to wire a switch and make sure you understand how it is supposed to work. Then check it against what you've got.

First of all i would remove all the wiring to the switch and connect the circuit in/out directly to the jacks. That way the effect should work as perm on, If that works then you know you have a problem with the wiring/bypass. Try eleminate one thing at a time.
