I've got an idea for a project and I need 3-pole pickups.
I've seen 4-pole pickups for electric mandolins, but I'm really wanting 3-poles and can't find them with the Google.

OK, maybe I'm talking to myself now, but I found some.

Two problems;
1-These are all handmade/handwound and I'm looking for something a little... cleaner.
2-I know pickups in general are expensive, and the good folks offering these have every right to charge what they can get for quality products, but I was kinda hoping to find cheap knock-off replacements for the originals (Fender XII, that is) as the project I have in mind is just an experiment for now.

Funny you should say that, I was just digging through all the "pickup diy" threads here.
I suppose it's do-able, but I'm a bit gun-shy especially since the DIY results vary quite a bit, and I'm going to use these in conjunction with an existing 6-pole pickup.
I just might...

For modern production G&L has their MFD "Z-coil" pickups, which is a split coil pickup, but they don't exactly fall into the category of inexpensive. I've never seen one without the cover on it, so I don't know if you could even split up the two coils.
