So, I have a couple NTE158's nte158.pdf (they measure about 140 gain with very little leakage, pretty consistent).

As many know, I've dedicated most of my musical art to the bass guitar. I'm looking for a fun project that ISN'T a FF or an FF derivative. I kinda considered a PNP Ge bazz fuss, but I really don't need another BF, either, lol. I have 2 Ge's, so single or dual stage is ok with me. Maybe something strange, I dunno... I have lots of op amps and other transistors, I should have all parts for almost any project... fets, cmos, odd logic chips (like the octal d-type f-f I use in a delay design I'll get out to the forums pretty soon), octal buffer, 4007's, a handfull of PT's...

BTW, I have no qualms with mixing devices... I see no reason that a good Ge circuit has to be all germ... that's just silli to me!

Any ideas? I need a solid small project to get a break from designing, and have had these sitting around for another FF build, but I figure I can just get a couple more when I get...

Interestingly enough, going through new posts today I came across a couple of discussions on Ge based designs.  The Orpheum fuzz and Mosrite Fuzzrite designs both come in Ge versions (don't know if that's NAFF enough, or how well it would work with bass guitar).

That, and the recently resurrected thread on "The Sonic Tonic," which uses an op-amp gain stage to drive a Ge emitter-follower.  That design looks full of possibilities to experiment.  Might sound interesting on a bass depending on how the gain and load is set.

Ooh, really looking forward to seeing that.
