I built the roger mayer axis fuzz and for q1 i was thinking what if i swapped out the 2n3906 for a pnp germanium with a hfe of 70-80. Right now my 2n3906 the hfe is 200 and q2 is a 2n3904 with hfe of 140.

The fuzz would still work right?

should work. you might need to rebias to get the sound you want. being negative feedback and already a farty fuzz you shouldn't hear missbiasing as badly. make sure the pinout still matches.

i thought people would be more inclined to change Q2? i'll watch to hear what other people say because i'm curious to know

darron is an expert in Germaniums!

My experimentation is very recent compared with the guys who were there for the revolution.
I thought for the 'hybrid' fuzzes it was silicon into Ge. I guess you should compare the si fuzzes to the Ge to get an idea of correct bias. Maybe tomorrow, it's 00:33 here... Hope someone gives the answer right away. Night!
