If C5 is the wrong way around then that might mean it won't do its job, which is to filter the envelope to the LED. If you get a rumbling sound on the decay it probably means you have it the wrong way around.

Ooops yeah, C5 is the wrong way around according to the schematic. Easy fix. Though I think this is one case where the polarity doesn't matter, as long as there is capacitance there. I've built a couple with the cap 'my way around' with no issues. Try it, if it bothers you - flip it.
