BMP with spitty/splatty sound ?

I have several BMP's and one of them is putting a spitty/splatty signal that reminds me of a mod I tried on my Tonebender MkII. (smaller than usual collector resistor on Q2).   My test guitar is an EMG loaded strat.  I don't think EMGs put out too much voltage.   Anyone ever run into this?

Practically every time someone says "spitty", "splatty", "farty", "gated" and so on, the cause is that something is misbiased so that only big signals will turn it on enough to be heard.

Have you read "Debugging: What to do when it doesn't work"?

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Been a while.

All four are stable and the voltage relationships are fine.

Q1  EBC  35.7mV 619mV 3.9V
Q2  EBC  50.8mV 647mV 4.2V
Q3  EBC  32.8mV 619mV 3.9V
Q4  EBC  1.2V 1.8V 4.9V

Q1-3 seem right (Q2 goes along with the lowering of a resistor that you spoke about.)

Your Q4 seems off though. The C leg should be about 4 volts. What size resistor do you have going to that bad boy?

10K Collector, 2K7 on the emitter.
