I have attempted to build the GGG 60's Fuzz with little luck. This is my first kit and I am a bit confused.

I have some electronics knowledge, so I've tried to trouble shoot a bit but I am now officially stuck.

Below is the standard info. Let me know if you need anything else.

Substitution: Kit didn't come with R2 - 33k 1/4 watt, so I replaced with Radio Shack 33k 1/2 watt

PNP - positive ground

Thing I know I did wrong that I hope didn't fry anything:
--Connected to DC power along with other pedals (with neg ground I assume)
--Powered with wrong transistors (NPN)
--Had correct transistor installed backwards (I think) and powered. I searched for the pin layout on a 2N3906. I looks like it is E,B,C if you are facing he flat side.

No sound comes out when it is turned on. Rotating volume pot make small noise in circuit. LED lights up.

Q2 collector has low voltage (see below)

All electrolytic caps a connected with + to ground

Battery is at 8.2 volts

Measurements:
              Measured                      Recommended

Q1   C       1.62                                    1.4
       B       0.56                                    0.6
       E       0.0                                      0.0

Q2   C     1.2                                      4.5
       B     1.4                                       1.4
       E     0.72                                     0.8

Looks to me like it just needs to be biased, try turning R5T.  The fact that you have voltages that are so close to what they should be says that it's likely you didn't blow up anything major.  Maybe you just don't have enough range on that 10k trimmer, it's overkill but I have a 50k 10 turn in mine.

When I turn R5T down I get 0.55 at the collector.

All the way up I get 1.67

Verify ALL of your component values! Resistors, capacitors, etc. Here is a good place to verify the resistors:

You may have mistaken (or JD if you bought the kit  ???) resistor values.

Also, the trimmer is just a recommendation. wavley is right. I have a 25K trim in my fuzz face and it is almost maxxed out  :o

Good Luck  ;D

Reverse polarized polarized caps are questionable at best, figure they might be fried. They're easiest for me to check {I have no cap-meter} by replacing them.
Then if it works the same they're already replaced, if it works even better that's even better.

I checked all caps and resistors, they seems correct.

Here is a photo of the board (showing off my mediocre soldering skills)

I removed all of the optional components, but still no luck.

I did notice that there is a loud hum when I touch the volume pot shaft or case. It goes away when I let go.

So I am thinking a grounding problem or I have the pot wired wrong.

Ymir

I found a bad connection between my bias pot and the switch. Now it works, but when my chords decay it gets all crackly and fizzy.

Does anyone know what would cause that?

wavley

Bias, get up to around 4.5 and it should go away, I always go for the meter and then undo it by tuning by ear.
