Is my orange squeezer working correctly?

I built an orange squeezer with my own layout. Seems like its working fine. nice amount of boost with very slight compression.
Only thing is that no matter how high i turn the trim pot it still sounds the same as lower settings. I even replace the trim pot with a 50k. once it "turns on" (just a small turn of the trim pot) all the way up.
I think on my last build (now owned by a friend) it had only a small working range with a 10k pot.

IIRC, the amount of compression is not linear to the travel of the trim pot, it's more of a sweet spot that needs to be dialed in.

Get a multiturn trimpot, its much easier to dial in the sweet spot.

  What indicates the sweet spot...
2 OS builds, both seemed like that pot could be 5k or 10k and then question whether the pot actually does anything.
But being a ~complex thing to design, the original designer probably put it there for a worth-it reason.
Compression proved so mild that it can be hard to 'locate', one way I found is..have the signal 'looked at'..and since I don't have a scope I used to listen carefully to envelope filter quack-ramp rates changes to try to determine compression ramp rates.
With 'obvious' compression such as with Ross/Dyna, the adjusted ramp rates are easily morphed and made obvious and predictable changes to the filter sweep rates/~stuck-but-wobbling-during-sustain-ramps, the 10k OS pot didn't seem to influence anything about compression ramp/depth/anything.
Not to say the 10k has no effect, it's just I tried ways to figure out how to notice re-setting the 10k and couldn't manage to notice it doing anything different by setting it, while the circuit continued with compression.
Considering how inconsistant Jfets are, the above tests should be considered as part of the bigger 'whats up with the OS pot?' picture and inconclusive.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I didnt phrase my question correctly.
Should It work at all with the pot set so high? IIRC on my last build I had no output with a 10k pot turned all the way up and now it works with a50k all the way up.
I would like to know to be sure my layout is correct.

It will "work", but the compression won't be as noticeable if present at all. At least that's how it was on mine.
