Hey guys.
ok i think i really want to build a Uglyface.. that sorta sick tones is what im after
the question here is that i can't find a vactrol in my country and ordering online is out of question as well :(

however did a research and they say a LED+LDR and wrapped in a tape will give you a vactrol... so the question is what LDR do i get for Uglyface Vactrol???

can't remember what I ended up using, but I just went to the local electronics place and picked up one of each they had, in around the size i needed, made them up with drinking straws and heatshrink, my uglyface works a treat.

do a search on here for uglyface, someone specifies faster response ones or something, the info is there.

I used a Vactrol (VTL5C3), here is a link to Elmer Perkins catalog http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/perkinelmer/VT500.pdf . It contains a lot of info and specs of Vactrols and LDR's. Pick and choose.

But, I believe that the Uglyface isn't too fussy insofar as LDR's are concerned. I would recommend a super bright red (clear lens) LED though. I've found these worked best in my LED-LDR projects i.e. Tremulus Lune, Stereo Panneur. The only reason why I used a Vactrol in my Uglyface is because I got it cheap, and I'd never used one before.

I'd say just try to get your hands on a few LDR's like a value pack at your local electronics supplier, use sockets, and audition them.

Cheers,
Dino
