Noob Questions

Hello Everyone, I'm from India and I'm new to this DIY pedals world.

So, I'll get straight to the question:

I was building my first DIY pedal as seen in this link http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-an-easy-guitar-distortion-pedal-STEP-BY-STEP/step18/null/

I used and did exactly as was told in the tutorial. But, After connecting everything there is no distortion whatsoever, it sounds as if i plugged my guitar directly into the amp. I dunno what is wrong with my circuit. Can anybody please help.
