have you looked at beavis audio's lfo?...optochopto?...

i tried it, it works, but yep there is ticking...

i cured the ticking on a cmos 555 by dropping the voltage......but others have still got it..somehow.. ::)

i was just thinking you may be able to do the same with the optochopto... just a thought..

ok, so what i need now is a TS555CN (that's the CMOS Low power one) fed from a lower voltage, and a selection of opto-options (yes i just made that up).

My plan now is to work on a good buffer setup. I've a bunch of dual opamps here, so right now, i'm toying with two ideas for the buffer/gain stage:

1. Make a proper, but simple buffer. I've only one buffer in my fx chain at the moment, and from what I gather, a buffer at the start, and at the end, is good. So that might be an option.
2. Make a buffer, but use the second half of the opamp to create a little dirt. I breadboarded a vibracaster before, and really liked it with a 12AX7 and some gain. The crunchy vibe was very Dead-Weather-y, so a gain control and some crunch could be fun.

I wont be able to invest in some optics till late in the week, maybe thursday or friday.

Thanks! that is just what I needed to hear again  ;D
I was lucky enough to see the racs loads of times, front row at small venues  8)

erm.... alternative option #1000000000000

What about a comparitor?

Lets say the two voltages being outputted by the 555LFO are +9, and 0 (they're actually a bit less/more respectively but still), Couldn't a comparitor be used to output a voltage to something like a buffer's biasing resistors, so instead of the buffer going on/off, it's permanently on, but just goes unbiased (no signal) to biased (signal)

I'm not so sure if it would pop less though, but might be worth trying, right?

@trademark...have you looked at the kay tremolo...its quite choppy...and a simple build too...

check this out..i used to have the exact same one when i first started playing...30 years ago.. :icon_rolleyes:

ah. I have not considered that.... I will though! I'm still gonna give this a go though. It's always good to learn something new. I tried out a couple of other options today, things like a transistor buffer etc etc, but no such luck.

I'm gonna invest in some optos this week though. It would be nice to say i made an optical tremolo at some stage hahaha! And who knows what it could be used for. ohnoho's utter stutter is based on an optical tremolo, and it's @#$%ing awesome.

deadastronaut

whats ohnoho's stutter pedal?...link?

The UTTTRSTTTTRRR is @#$%ing cool. I'd love one. It'll be my next pedal buy i think. The blowing up is @#$%ing cool though. Sits there loud and proud on my board. Except mine is painted with a green dinosaur on the front. ;)

i know it's double post, but i just came across this:

http://www.designnotes.com/downloads/MK105_Assembly.pdf

Now i notice a lot of similarities between it and my own little oscillator. Firstly, the 47n (C3) between trigger and ground should be increased. I've a little pot setup there for speed.

After output is where I get lost. I built this in a sim, and the junctions for the waveform dont really seem to work, maybe i just dont understand them. In anycase, this looks like it could potentially be a really nice function generator to expand on my LFO. Any ideas on how to really get this going? my simulator says that its outputting < 100mA.

trad3mark

Aaww crap....

I think i bought the wrong parts. I got phototransistors... i think.

I've an SFH618A, and a ILQ74. Are these any use?

vendettav

is it like a oscillator??? like it generates sound?
