An informative fellow on the board related to me that in the peppermint fuzz, "he bias resistor on Q2 is a 50k pot with a 2.7k resistor in series.  I am guessing that a 50k pot accomodates the much higher gain than the typical Q2, but what purpose is served by the 2.7K resistor?  It seems like a pretty minor addendum.  Why not just use a slightly higher value trimpot?

I would venture to guess that the 2.7K resistor allows for there to ALWAYS be some minimal resistance even when the trimpot is set to 0.
