Wiring Rat JFET as booster?

What would be required to have the JFET at the end of the RAT circuit act as a booster, as opposed to simply a buffer? And would the 2N5458 be properly suited to this purpose? I'd like to use it ideally as just a clean gain stage, I'm not looking for extra dirt.

I imagine this would be easy enough to do, however I don't know enough about JFETs to attempt it myself; as such, help would be much appreciated.

You could do it pretty simply, with a little bit of modification.  By taking the output from the drain instead of the source you would get amplified signal, as opposed to buffered.  Look at this page:

The second pic down is a booster using a 2n5458.  I suspect you'll have to make that FET stage look more like this one to make it 'boost'.  Then I would think you could switch between the Drain and source to switch the boost on and off.  You'll want a level control obivously... Best thing to do would be to try it out on your breadboard.
