Hi Everybody,

I'm new to the forum.  Does anyone know what might cause the second channel of this circuit (Dean Hazelwanter Stereo Tremolo modified version of Craig Anderson's, bought from General Guitar Gadgets) not to sound?

I can hear it making the tremolo effect on some background hum but no sound from the guitar makes it through on the second channel at all.

I'm sure it can be many things but after trouble shooting for a while I think it has to be a bad component.  I've been over the wiring several times and I don't see any mistakes like the electrolytic caps being backwards or solder bridging a gap were it shouldn't.  I've tested the 4559's (also used 072's as shown in the schematic) and they show 18 volts between the 4th and 8th pin as expected on both channels so I don't think the problem is coming from the power supply (two batteries wired exactly like the schematic).  The first channel sounds as I imagine it should however it is a lot quieter than if I were to bypass the effect.  The hex chip I used is the HCF4049UBE. I used the 4049BP not realizing that there was a difference and it caused the one position of switch S2 to sound like a bypass rather than the tremolo effect.

Any information would be greatly appreciated! I'm kind of new to pedal building but I can tell I will be doing this for the rest of my life!  Resources for me to learn how to troubleshoot better would also be appreciated!  Thanks everyone!

also, I just noticed that the 2 channel's opamp is heating up and the other is staying cool

As damaging as it is to our egos, I have found that the probability of getting a bad part like an opamp is truly infinitesimal compared to the probability of an error in a build.

DEBUGGING - What to do when it doesn't work

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy building!  :)

Haha I'm afraid you're right Taylor. Thanks for the Debugging link.  I'll be posting a better description based on that article, shortly.
