Silicon Fuzz Face Transistor gains

Whats up guys? So I'm building a Silicon Fuzz Face with some BC108c transistors from newark. I wanted to know what gains do you guys recommend for a silicon fuzz. I read on Geofex that the sweet spot is around 80-110 but that's for Germanium transistors. On the datasheet the gains for the BC108c are 420min 800max   to me that seems extremely high to be used on a good sounding fuzz I'm not sure though. I saw the BC108A goes from 110min 220max do you think that's a better choice?

Hi,

I used 2N5088 in my FF, with Hfe around 350. Well, it works, a bit fizzy... Check the Hfe of your BC108 : you may find some with Hfe as low as 100, so it would suits your needs.

I used to have a FF with BC559A, with hfe's around 150.
Easy to tame.

In the end, it will depend on nothing but your own ears...and remember that different amps/guitars/pickups will produce different tones.

A good chunk of the fun of making your own pedal is experimenting and making it uniquely yours. You can get loads of modern silicon for pennies (literally), so try everything until YOU like it.

I've had good luck with 2N5550 and 2SC1815 in the 100- 150 range:

I think 2N2369A is the best choice. Hfe usually around 60-110.

Plus, they look good.

Awesome thanks for all the input guys. I'm breadboard it try a few transistors see how it goes. I'm gonna buy 10 of each transistor and see what works best the BC108, BC108b BC108c or the 2n2222a.
