I'm changing this question up a bit:  can I sub the 470pf silver mica with a ceramic cap without killing the sound?  and how about tantalum cap for the 1uf - would that be OK?  These two caps are getting harder to find and very expensive to boot!
thanks

The only thing to say about brownie caps is know where you want to use them.
  The other caps are excellent.
   two caveats:
in certain positions where HF is bold or whatever and Electrolytic doesn't extend to the need required, a small value non-electrolytic across the electrolytic will extend HF performance.
  Note polarity of electrolytic.
I can't figure what all the bother people explain in such detail is about, I've been using capacitors of every shape, size, color, material and age in all kinds of equipment, haven't been bothered by a cap yet, other than dried out or damaged ones.
If the correct value is in hand, by all means use it !
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

i hear you, i mean it's only two caps i'm replacing! if they suck, i'll rip 'em out and try something else.  i do agree with an earlier thread  however, that using ALL ceramic caps can sound more harsh.  but really, some of these silver mica caps won't even fit into the PCB so... you must find replacements.
thanks!
