LM567 ring modulator circuit

I've had a go at a ring mod type circuit from beavis audio http://www.beavisaudio.com/bboard/projects/bbp_567Mod_Rev_1_1.pdf

Is the circuit supposed to have the constant drone? and is there a way to get rid of it? I've tried searching on google and stuff and I can't find anything.

The chip has an internal oscillator that you can't shut off. It's supposedly quieter if you use the LMC567.

The complicated way to get rid of the drone completely would be to have an envelope detector in front of the chip that controls a gate on the output.

I vero'd and built this; http://www.forrestwhitesides.com/node/97 . The Logan 5 is an LM567 based pseudo-ringmodulator.

I actually combined it with an Escobedo Digital Octave Fuzz, and it works well. I don't get any droning at all. Here is a clip http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?q=hi&songID=10490290, the section from :50 to 1:15 is the DOF running through the Logan 5.

Of course, keeping any oscillating circuit quiet during bypass requires grounding the input. That said, mine is very quiet.
