Tube Driver Work-A-Like?

Is there an overdrive pedal that sounds like the Chandler Tube Driver? The Tube Driver sounds cool, but it's such a pain in the butt to run.

Huh? It has a volume control, a drive control and a two-band EQ. It's pretty simple to run. Or am I missunderstanding what you mean by "run"? I take it to mean "operate."

I have a TC electronic line driver/booster (which is really just a fancy tubescreamer)  and a chandler tube driver biased to use a 12au7. To my ears they sound pretty similar, the tube driver is a bit brighter in the midrange but I think they overlap in their tonal range. If I had to choose between one and the other it would be a toss up. Maybe I lack golden ears.

I wouldn't want to use the external power supply, dude. I just want to use a normal one.

Plus, it's rather large.

So I was hoping to find a way to approximate the same tone.

Gotcha! It is a little larger than a "standard" stompbox and it doesn't run on a 9V battery, so I see what you mean. I don't know anything that sounds quite like it. I don't know if you'll get real "tube sound" out of 9V. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

If you like the "marshall in a box" idea I tend to lean towards the BSIAB circuits...

JFET boxes can emulate tubes in a couple of regards...

I don't know what the chandler tube driver sounds like (and am way too lazy to resarch it) but if the "pain to run" is an external tube and strange powersupply just rehouse it so the tube is protected and deal with the pain of one more adapter IMNSHO
